Difference Between AVAILABILITY and UTILISATION in Mining Machinery

** INTRODUCTION :-

In Mining, we always try to Achieve Higher Production by applying Highly Efficient Machines/Equipment and Modern Science Knowledge.

The production performance of Mining Machines/Equipment depends on its availability and utilization. Hence it is necessary to determine the percentage availability and utilization of machinery with an aim to improve the Production.

**KEYWORDS**

  • Worked hours = hours in which the machine is available and is in use.

  • Idle hours = hours in which machine is available but not in use due to any Reason.

1. AVAILABILITY

A machine is considered available when it is fit and used to perform its duties.
The availability is determined by dividing the hours the machine is available and is used, plus the hours it is available but not used due to various reasons in a Shift. It is normally expressed in percentages.

2. UTILISATION

It is defined as the ratio of the time (in hours) the machine is actually used/worked to the total Shift hours. It is also expressed in percentages.

In INDIA, generally -

Shovel availability - 80 percent , Shovel Utilisation - 58 percent

Dumper availability - 67 percent , Dumper Utilisation - 50 percent
