BLAST CASTING

GENERAL PRINCIPLE:

Blast casting by explosives in surface coal mines offers significant operational and economical benefits. "Blast casting" or "overburden casting" is the controlled displacement of Rock overburden by means of explosive energy from above the coal seam. By this technique the bench material is broken and moved directly into a void created in the previous pit, thus minimising the use of cast letter by dragline or pushed by bulldozer.
