Mine Explosion

An explosion is a sudden combustion process of great intensity, accompanied(साथ में) by release of large quantities of heat energy.


In explosion, the original gas(methane) & Solid substance (coal) is converted instantaneously into gaseous products.



Mine Explosions are generally regarded as a serious & constant hazard in underground coal mines.


In coal mines, Explosion are caused by:-

- Ignition of Firedamp damp called

Firedamp Explosion


- Ignition of coal dust called Coal dust explosion


- Both mixed explosion


In metal mines, explosions are due to sulphide dust (Iron pyrite).


In india, between 1900 & 2015, 35 explosion occurred & more than 1300 Miners were died.
the worst disaster due to mines explosion took place in Dhori colliery (1965) where 268 miners were killed.
