Spontaneous Heating & Incubation period

Spontaneous Heating:-It is defined as the process of self heating resulting eventually in its ignition without the application of external heat.

Concept:- When coal is exposed to air. it absorbs oxygen at the exposed surface & Oxidation of coal is started. as we know that oxidation is an Exothermic Reaction which produce Heat along with Co,Co2 . The heat evolved is not perceptible until it is carried away by air.but when the air is stagnant(धीमा) it doesn't able to carry away the liberated air.

As a result, there is a gradual build up of heat & slow rise in temperature & when this temperature reaches in its ignition temperature of coal it catches fire. this process is called as spontaneous heating.

Spontaneous Heating:- यह एक ऐसा प्रकिया है, जिससे कोयला बिना कोई बाहरी आग के, अपने आप आग पकड़ लेता है।

Concept:- जब कोयले की सतह हवा के संपर्क में आती है तो यह आक्सीजन Absorb करने लगती है जिससे कोयले का Oxidation होने लगता है, जैसे कि हम जानते हैं Oxidation एक Exothermic reaction है जिससे Co,Co2 के साथ साथ ताप भी उत्पन्न होता है यह reaction काफी धीमा होता है और हवा यह ताप को बहा कर ले जाती है लेकिन हवा अगर कम है तो हवा ताप को बहा कर नहीं ले जा पाता फलस्वरूप कोयले की सतह का तापमान बढ़ने लगता है और कोयला धीरे धीरे गर्म होने लगता है जब यह तापमान कोयले के Ignition temperature तक पहुंच जाता है तो कोयला आग पकड़ लेता है इसे ही स्वत: जलन Spontaneous heating कहते हैं।

Incubation period:- Incubation period is basically a time interval which elapse between the time when the coal is first subjected to conditions favourable for spontaneous heating & the time of indications of heating.

In Indian coal seams, Incubation period generally varies from 3 to 24 months.

Incubation period:-

Incubation period मुख्यत: एक‌ Time interval है, कोयले में पहली बार Spontaneous heating के लिए Favourable condition मिलने के समय से लेकर कोयले में Spontaneous heating शुरू होने के लक्षण मिलने तक के समयांतराल को Incubation period कहते‌ है।
